Windows 10 is the newly announced version of Microsoft’s operating system. It’s great news for PC owners, who can enjoy even more great features and an improved user experience compared to previous versions of Windows.
Millions of people around the world are already using Windows 10 as part of the Windows Insider Programme, which allows participants to download preview builds of the operating system to use and test. Microsoft take the feedback of these users into account when making changes and fixing bugs. Although the preview builds aren’t complete, they give us a good indication of how Windows 10 will work and what it’ll look like.
Windows 10 comes with a new web browser, “Edge”, which replaces Internet Explorer. The new browser includes many new features, such as the ability to make notes on web pages and share them with other people. You can save web pages to read later and interact with Microsoft’s voice assistant “Cortana” to speed up productivity.
Create virtual desktops to group applications or shortcuts to files, or when you just need more space. Snap up to four apps on the screen at once, to get to what you need faster. The enhancements to the desktop environment will be really useful in your day to day experience.
Create the same app to use on PCs, tablets and phones.
Another great improvement over previous versions of Windows, which were different depending on what device you had, Windows 10 has the same app store no matter what type of device you’re using. You can create apps for Windows 10 that work on PCs, tablets and phones, adjusting to fit on the device - this makes developing, maintaining and supporting your app even easier. Not to mention just how many devices will be able to install the app once Windows 10 is released and users start upgrading.
The official release date for Windows 10 is 29th July 2015 for desktop and laptop devices, while phones, tablets and other supported devices will get the update later on. Apps that were designed for Windows 8 will continue to work seamlessly on Windows 10, although enhancements can be made that take advantage of the new features available in the latest operating system.
Windows 10 will be offered completely free of charge to users of Windows 8.1 for the first year. This means that upgrading will be easy and most users will choose to do so - some users are already being prompted to upgrade.
